Movement analysis is the review of what actually happened over a period of time in the distribution of your publication(s).  If a publication is weekly, then the information cycle for each week (issue) is:

  •  update distribution point information

  •  print the route sheet

  •  deliver the publication

  •  record what you dropped off and what was picked up on the route sheet

  •  using the route sheet, enter the quantities into the database

  •  close the issue

    •  write current data to history (movement)

    •  initialize database for next issue

The advantages of an integrated database system becomes apparent when you analyze the history transactions.  Being able to select any date range (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.) with a wide selection of views (categories, markets, routes, zip, etc.) you will be able to make intelligent decisions that will impact the profitability and growth of your publication(s).
